What are the best HoneyBook alternatives for doulas?

HoneyBook already handles many of the basics well: leads, proposals, contracts, invoices, payment plans, scheduling, automations, and email drafts. Switching makes sense only when another option solves a specific problem better for your practice.

Prices and product details below were checked against the vendors’ public documentation on July 25, 2026. Temporary promotions are excluded.

Start with HoneyBook’s current offering

HoneyBook’s public prices are $36/month for Starter, $59/month for Essentials, and $129/month for Premium. With annual billing, the effective monthly prices are $29, $49, and $109. A 30-day trial is available without a credit card.

All plans include unlimited clients and projects, proposals, contracts, invoices, payment plans, a client portal, and HoneyBook AI. HoneyBook’s plan guide says its AI can draft emails, prepare meeting notes, enrich leads, and summarize projects. Essentials adds scheduling, automations, integrations, SMS reminders, and two team members.

Card fees start at 2.7% + 10¢, and bank transfers cost 1.5%. HoneyBook notes that actual card fees can depend on account and volume.

If those features cover your practice and your records are already organized, renewing may be less work than moving.

Doula workflows to check before choosing

The public HoneyBook pages reviewed do not list these as built-in features. That does not prove they are impossible to create with custom fields, dates, templates, or automations.

• Payment dates based on an estimated due date. Check whether changing the due date recalculates the payment schedule and how an early birth affects an unpaid balance.
• On-call capacity. Decide whether you need the software to show on-call ranges and warn you about overlapping birth clients.
• Postpartum hours. Check whether both you and the client can see hours purchased, used, and remaining.
• Reimbursement documents. If you issue superbills, check whether the tool creates an itemized, NPI-aware document. A superbill is not an insurance or Medicaid claim.
• Message controls around a birth. If software follows up automatically, check how quickly you can pause outgoing messages.

Ask each vendor to demonstrate your actual workflow with sample data. A feature list cannot show how much setup or manual updating the workflow requires.

Current alternatives

Dubsado: configurable forms and workflows

Dubsado Starter costs $35/month or $335/year. It includes unlimited clients and projects, contracts, invoices, payment plans, forms, email templates, and client portals. Premier costs $55/month or $525/year and adds scheduling, automated workflows, public proposals, Zapier, QuickBooks Online, and bookkeeping tools.

New accounts receive a 21-day trial with Premier features and no credit card required. The old three-client trial now applies only to legacy accounts that have not converted. Dubsado says it adds no payment fee, though Stripe, Square, or PayPal charges its own processing fees.

Dubsado is a good candidate if you want to design your own forms and automations. Its public pricing documentation does not list estimated-due-date rules, on-call capacity, postpartum hour banks, or NPI-aware superbills as built-in features, so ask for a demonstration if those matter to you.

17hats: general business tools in one plan

17hats lists one plan at $60/month, $600/year, or $800 for two years. It offers a seven-day trial. The plan includes contracts, invoices, questionnaires, client records, scheduling, workflows, and bookkeeping features. Some modules and additional users can cost extra.

17hats is built for small businesses broadly. Its public pricing page does not identify doula-specific due-date, on-call, hour-bank, or superbill features.

Doulado: doula-specific software with electronic claims

Doulado Starter costs $19/month and includes unlimited clients, scheduling, client messaging, documents, invoicing, payments, and lead forms. Premium costs $29/month and adds HIPAA features, claims submission, team management, booking pages, video appointments, and text notifications. Annual plans include two months free.

Doulado says it can submit electronic claims to more than 6,000 payers, check eligibility, and receive electronic remittance advice. Its claims guide lists separate $1 fees for a claim submission, an eligibility check, and an electronic remittance advice receipt. Claims require Premium or Impact and signed compliance agreements. Reimbursement is not guaranteed.

If you need to submit Medicaid or private insurance claims, Doulado currently offers a feature that Junie does not. Junie does not submit those claims and does not publish a launch date for doing so.

Junie: a doula workflow product

Junie costs $39/month or $390/year, with a free plan covering one engagement record in a signed, active, on-call, or postpartum stage. HoneyBook, Dubsado, 17hats, and Doulado are built for a wider range of businesses, so compare the specific workflow you need rather than the feature counts.

Junie includes payment dates calculated from the estimated due date, on-call periods, postpartum hour banks, and agent-assisted administrative messages that start in review mode. Eligible inquiry and transactional follow-up workflows can earn optional autopilot. Junie can also produce a payment receipt labeled as a superbill from settled payments, but the current output uses payment-record dates and generic descriptions. Junie does not submit Medicaid or insurance claims. The built-in importer handles basic contact and pipeline fields from one CSV, or one contacts CSV found inside a ZIP, with a result for each row. Spreadsheets and documents: flexible, with manual upkeep

A spreadsheet can track clients, due dates, balances, and hours in a format you control. Contracts, signatures, payments, reminders, and client-facing documents usually live in separate tools. The cost depends on what you combine; Google Workspace Business Starter is $7 per user per month with a one-year commitment at the time of review.

Keep the system if you can update it consistently and retrieve a client’s complete record when needed. Consider a dedicated product when missed follow-ups, repeated calculations, or records spread across several tools become a recurring problem.

How to move records without rushing

1. List what must move. Include active clients, contact details, due dates, upcoming work, signed agreements, invoices, payments, and balances.
2. Download an untouched copy. HoneyBook exports contacts as a CSV. Its smart files can be saved as PDFs. Dubsado exports project and client data as a CSV.
3. Test with sample data first. Confirm that the destination handles your required fields and workflow before moving live client information.
4. Reconcile before cancelling. Check every active balance, open a sample of signed files, and run one client record through the full workflow. Keep the old account until those checks pass.

Review your current vendor’s cancellation and refund terms before changing an annual subscription.

Can I export my contacts from HoneyBook?

Yes. HoneyBook’s desktop site exports the contacts list as a CSV with names, contact details, notes, and the date each contact was created.

Can I bulk-download every HoneyBook document?

The public help page reviewed explains how to save a smart file, page, contract, invoice, or service selection as a PDF. It does not document a bulk download for all project files. Budget time to review and save the signed documents you need.

Will I lose signed contracts when I switch?

You can reduce that risk by saving signed contracts as PDFs, keeping the original export, and confirming that each active client’s file opens in the new system before cancelling HoneyBook. Ask the destination vendor how it stores imported documents.

Should I switch at renewal?

Renewal is a useful decision point because you can compare the next subscription charge with the work of moving. If the current tool is already paid for, an overlap period can give you time to verify the new account without rushing.

Does Junie pay off an unused HoneyBook or Dubsado subscription?
