How to enroll as a Medicaid doula in Florida

Florida's doula benefit is run by Medicaid managed care plans, not through a statewide fee-for-service schedule. AHCA says all Florida Medicaid plans cover doula services, but current plan materials differ on visit limits, referrals, networks, and payment. Confirm the member's plan rules and your Florida Medicaid registration or enrollment requirements before providing a service you expect the plan to pay for.

• No state doula certification or registry. Each plan (or its credentialing delegate) sets requirements; typical elements are doula training/certification, CPR, HIPAA training, background check, and liability insurance

• Florida Medicaid registration or enrollment and plan-network credentialing requirements vary by arrangement. Confirm both with the plan or its network partner before serving a member

How to enroll

1. Step 1

   Complete a recognized doula training

   There is no state-approved list. Ask the plan or The Doula Network which credentials it accepts before paying for or relying on a training program.

2. Step 2

   Get your free Type 1 NPI

   NPPES, taxonomy 374J00000X.

3. Step 3

   Check whether the plan uses The Doula Network

   The Doula Network currently lists relationships with Aetna Better Health, Community Care Plan, Humana Healthy Horizons, Molina, Simply Healthcare, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Confirm its current relationship with the member's plan before applying.

4. Step 4

   Follow the plan's registration and contracting process

   Sunshine Health publishes its own provider guidance. Other plans may use a network partner or a direct contract. Ask the plan which application, Medicaid registration, referral, and billing steps apply in your region.
